BHS girls get Area tie

The Belgreen Bulldog girls beat the Hackleburg Panthers 44-24, forcing a tie for the top spot in the area. The home court advantage was decided by a coin toss Monday – with Hackleburg nabbing the honor.

Belgreen forced the issue early, jumping out to an 11-4 lead in the first quarter and extending the lead to 18-9 at halftime. The Bulldogs put the game away in the third quarter, with Carson Hovater and Dacota Green scoring nine points each, accounting for all of Belgreen’s points.

The Bulldogs led 38-19 at the end of the third quarter.

Hovater led Belgreen with 16 points, followed by Green with 12 points. Noelle Willingham added six points, Alayna Tate five points, B.B. Scott four points and Laura Seal one point.


Belgreen closes out area play undefeated

The Belgreen Bulldogs closed out area play undefeated, beating the Hackleburg Panthers 65-26.

The Belgreen boys (23-3) dominated the game from the opening tip, taking a 21-5 first quarter lead and extending their lead to 39-11 by halftime.

Will Bonner led Belgreen in scoring with 15 points, followed by Cole King with 10 points. Collin Bonner added eight points, Alex Jarnigan six points and Braycen Johnson five points. Canaan Stough, Hadden Taylor and Adrian Reeves scored four points each, and Austin James added three points. Will King, Ely Mitchell and Brent Sykes scored two points each.

Belgreen 52, Phil Campbell 38

Will Bonner scored 25 points to lead the Belgreen Bulldogs past the Phil Campbell Bobcats 52-38 Saturday.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the first quarter, but Bonner took over in the second quarter, scoring 12 of the Bulldogs’ 19 points to help Belgreen take a 26-24 halftime lead.

Belgreen added to that lead in the third quarter, 44-31.

Reeves followed Bonner with 11 points. Collin Bonner added six points. King and Stough scored four points each. Jarnigan added two points.

Kyle Pace led the Bobcats with 15 points. Blain Goodson added eight points, Canaan Clay six points, Cam Habada four points, Quentin Hyde two points, Sage Raper one point and Cole Pace one point.
