Russellville Dream Center launches new business venture to benefit center

Russellville Dream Center and Shawn Reathford, senior pastor of Redemption Outreach Church and director of the center, along with his wife Cathy, are opening a new business, Discount Warehouse, at 16175 Highway 43 in Russellville.

Featuring liquidations, closeouts and furniture, the business will host a grand opening Feb. 4-5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A portion of the new business proceeds will go toward paying for the operating expenses of the Dream Center, a non-profit organization located at 206 Coffee Ave. in Russellville. The center’s website describes its mission as “rescuing people, rebuilding lives and restoring dreams.”

The couple, along with graduates and workers of the Dream Center, will run the business, possibly adding more employees in time. “As a nonprofit, we don’t receive government funding, and we have to raise the funds for operating expenses ourselves,” explained Reathford. “We’re so excited to get this adventure off the ground.”

Reathford said the planning has been underway since the end of October. “That’s when we started putting everything together. We’ve been praying about it and felt this was the right time,” he said. “In addition to helping support our mission at the Dream Center, this business will provide good deals on merchandise including furniture, toys, houseware items, cleaning supplies and outdoor items.”

Reathford said the Dream Center offers opportunities and resources to low-income individuals and families to help them reach self-sufficiency by providing basic necessities and emergency assistance. “Our vision is to impact issues of substance abuse, moral decay, homelessness and poverty that exist in our city and surrounding communities.”

It’s a mission he and his wife, along with a number of others, have been passionate about for a long time. “We also minister to those in need by sharing the love of Christ through outreaches held in different areas that include food and donated goods,” explained Reathford. “Most importantly, the Word is preached, and salvation is presented.”
