Tharptown’s Taylor Cameron signs with Meridian for softball

Taylor Cameron has been playing softball since she was a little girl. Sunday she signed a softball scholarship with Meridian Community College in Mississippi to continue playing at the next level.

“I can’t tell you what this means to me,” said Cameron. “This is something I have always loved doing. All the years of lessons and travel ball have been worth it to get to this moment. I can’t wait to get to Meridian and start playing.”

Cameron has been Tharptown’s ace in the circle for several years. Firstyear softball coach Kamri Fleming said she is thrilled to have someone like Cameron on her team as she starts the high school season.

“Taylor is the type of player every coach wants in their lineup, and I am very lucky to have her in mine,” said Fleming. “Taylor is a great softball player, and she’s so fun to watch – whether it’s on the mound, third base, or in the batter’s box.

“It brings me comfort to see Taylor in the batter’s box or on the mound because I know she’s going to get the job done,” Fleming added. “She’s a huge asset to our team.

“Meridian is getting a great player who truly loves the game of softball, and after all the hard work Taylor has put in throughout all these years, she deserves this moment.”

Cameron said she plans to pursue a career in the field of physical therapy.
