Belgreen Bulldogs edge out Hatton twice

After taking an early lead, the Belgreen Bulldogs broke a tie in the fifth inning and ninth inning to edge out the Hatton Hornets 9-8 this past week. They got the win again Saturday, 5-4.

Belgreen 9, Hatton 8

Belgreen took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Brodie Vandiver scoring Tyler Mann. Vandiver scored on a passed ball.

Belgreen added to that lead in the top of the fourth inning when Alex Guidry scored on an error, making it 3-0.

Hatton stormed back in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Bulldogs, but Belgreen responded in the top of the fifth to tie the game when Mann scored on an RBI single by Caige Smith.

Belgreen reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Will King scored on an RBI-single by Landon Cox. Cole King scored on a wild pitch, and Landon Cox stole home to give the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead.

Hatton responded again with a big inning of their own, retaking the lead 8-7.

Belgreen tied the game again in the top of the seventh inning when Smith scored on a passed ball, and the Bulldogs took the lead for good in the top of the ninth inning when Will King scored on another passed ball.

Belgreen had doubles from Carson Cox, Cole King, and Canaan Stough.

Five pitchers took the mound for the Bulldogs in the win, giving up seven hits, eight runs and nine walks and striking out 14 batters. Vandiver got the win for Belgreen.

Belgreen 5, Hatton 4

Belgreen faced Hatton for a second time Saturday, winning 5-4.

Belgreen scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Will King scored on fielder’s choice.

Hatton tied the game up 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning.

The Bulldogs built a big lead in the bottom half of the fourth, scoring four runs. Carson Cox’s RBI single scored Smith. Jackson Galliano scored on a sacrifice fly by Stough. Will King’s RBI-double scored Cox. King came around to score on a fielder’s choice.

Hatton scored three in a two-out rally in the top of the seventh inning. Will King came in to shut down the rally for Belgreen, giving the Bulldogs the win.

Belgreen 5, Tharptown 2

A big fourth inning sealed the deal for Belgreen in a 5-2 win over Tharptown.

Belgreen took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and extended that lead to 4-0 in the fourth. The Wildcats scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning.

Carson Cox led Belgreen, going three-for-four and scored two runs.

Guidry got the win for the Bulldogs pitching three innings, allowing four hits and no runs, and he struck out two.

Nick Chaney scored Tharptown’s only run.
