Belgreen girls get pair of wins

The Belgreen Bulldogs scored six runs in the second inning to blow past Phillips and win 9-5.

Belgreen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a single by Madison Vandiver scoring MaKayla Willingham.

The Bulldogs broke the game open in the top of the second inning, scoring six runs. Caitlyn Oliver doubled in Katie Cooper and Dacota Green to give Belgreen a 3-0 lead. Oliver scored on a sacrifice bunt to extend the lead to 4-0.

Noelle Willingham crossed the plate to make it 5-0. Lily Blackburn hit an RBI triple, scoring Bryn Scott. Blackburn scored on a fielder’s choice to give Belgreen a 7-0 lead.

The Belgreen girls added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI-triple by Green, scoring Vandiver. Green later scored on an error to give the Bulldogs a 9-0 lead.

The Phillips girls scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Belgreen 4, Tharptown 0

Blackburn threw a no-hitter in a 4-0 shutout win over the Tharptown Lady Wildcats.

It was a pitching battle for much of the game between Blackburn, who struck out seven, and Taylor Cameron, who fanned eight for Tharptown.

Blackburn’s team was able to put the ball in play and produce runs, while Tharptown’s bats remained silent.

Scoreless through four innings, Willingham broke the deadlock with an inside-the-park home run to spark a four-run top of the fifth inning. Sydnee West scored on the home run to give Belgreen a 2-0 lead. Bryn Scott and MaKayla Willingham scored to make it 4-0.
