Lady Golden Tigers look to build on early season softball wins

Russellville’s varsity softball team is off to a winning start to the 2022 season with a 6-4 mark. The Lady Golden Tigers finished up a week of action with five games during two days at the Wetumpka Tournament.

Russellville 13, Florence 8

RHS went to Florence Feb. 28 and defeated the Lady Falcons.

Eight Russellville batters had hits, with Jaiden Calvert leading the way with a three-hit performance. Emma Campbell had a grand slam home run, and Tori Tiffin also homered.

Melissa Aparisio and Jenna Whitfield both doubled twice and had two hits apiece. Summer Butler, Maddy Green and Natalie Nichols also hit safely.

Addison Holcomb got the start in the pitching circle for RHS and went five innings. She was followed by Paislee James, who struck out six batters over two innings.

Hatton 7, Russellville 0

The Hatton Lady Hornets came to Russellville and got a shutout win. RHS had three hits, by Tori Tiffin, Jenna Whitfield and Jacey Moore. Moore and Tiffin did the pitching for Russellville.

Russellville 1, Prattville 0

The Wetumpka Tournament got underway March 4 with RHS shutting out the Prattville Lady Lions.

James went the distance for Russellville, pitching six innings. She allowed one hit and struck out five batters.

Whitfield had a hit and a RBI for RHS. Holcomb had the other Russellville hit, and she scored the lone run of the contest.

Rehobeth 7, Russellville 2

The Lady Golden Tigers fell in game two of the day in Wetumpka. Moore and Whitfield had two hits apiece for RHS, while Butler and Green had one each. Holcomb threw 85 pitches over five innings, and James came on in relief and threw six pitches.

Russellville 6, Stanhope Elmore 4

The Russellville girls got back to their winning ways to start more tournament action March 5. Aparisio hit a home run, and Whitfield had a double and two RBIs. Butler and Tiffin added two hits apiece, and Campbell helped the cause with a single.

James got the start and pitched an inning before Tiffin finished the contest with four innings of work. Tiffin allowed one hit, no runs and struck out four.

Russellville 10, Foley 0

The Lady Golden Tigers dominated FHS from start to finish. Whitfield had two doubles, and teammates Calvert, Campbell and Holcomb had one each. Butler joined Whitfield, Calvert and Green with two hits each, and Tiffin, Moore and Aparisio also got hits for RHS.

Moore pitched four innings. She struck out seven and allowed one hit before Holcomb finished the game.

Wetumpka 4, Russellville 2

Bracket play and the tournament wrapped up for RHS with a loss to Wetumpka. Russellville got three hits – by Butler, Whitfield and Holcomb. Moore did the pitching and threw 90 pitches over five innings.
