Golf gears up in Phil Campbell

Phil Campbell has three golfers returning from this past year’s sub-state team: senior Trey Benford, senior Joshua Morgan and junior Eli Hall. Junior Tyler Pounders and freshman Peyton Walker are both newcomers to the links.

“Trey and Joshua should be key contributors to make it back to sub-state again,” said Phil Campbell Coach Brett Thomas. “Eli has some experience under his belt, which will help him also.

“If everyone plays up to their capability, this team should be able to make it back to sub-state.”

Phil Campbell will also be fielding a girls golf team for the first time. The three first-year players are freshman Kaylie Motes, freshman Lydia Garrison and seventh-grader Taylor Wallace.

“These girls are all hard workers and have shown great improvement since practice started,” said Thomas. “Our goal is to make it a sub-state, and I think they have the capability to accomplish that.”
