Barbering students sweep clean at state SkillsUSA competition

Russellville High School students studying barbering at the Franklin County Career Technical Center placed in the top three at a state competition recently.

“This was my first year to take students to state,” explained Danielle Hargett, cosmetology instructor, who works for Russellville City and Franklin County. “Every student that went and competed or otherwise participated took part as a model in cosmetology. I took a total of 14 students.”

In barbering:

  • Federico Juan, a senior, placed first, and is qualified to compete at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta this summer.
  • Byron Cotoc, a senior, placed second.
  • Kevin Cotoc, a sophomore, placed third.

“It was a clean sweep in barbering,” Hargett said. “I also had a student, Kyra Rollins from Phil Campbell, place third in esthetics. I’m very proud of all of them.”
