Russellville hosts Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament

More than 40 youth baseball teams took part in the 2022 Alabama Dixie Youth Rookie State Tournament hosted by Russellville June 23-26.

Two Russellville teams and one Phil Campbell team represented Franklin County in double-elimination tournament bracket play.

Russellville Dixie Youth Baseball and the Russellville Parks and Recreation Department hosted the event that included tournament play for 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U and 12U teams from across the state. Games took place at the John Blackwell Complex, the Hal Kirby Jr. Park and the Russellville High School softball field.

In 7U action, Russellville played in a 10-team bracket and fell to Southeastern and Municipal. Montgomery American won the state championship.

Members of the Russellville team were Bryce Page, Carter Trapp, Brantley Jackson, Brady Odom, Brooks Knight, Maddux Lawson, Cooper Flanagan, Greyson Boatwright, Case Howard, Miles Cade, Owen Lane, Micah Tompkins and Case Hallmark. Coaches were Corey Flanagan, Donnie Flanagan, Cory Trapp, Blake Jackson and Aaron Page.

The 8U Phil Campbell team got a first round bye in the nine-team bracket and then dropped games to Taylor-Rehobeth and Hatton. Later in the tournament, Troy won the state title.

Phil Campbell team members were Ayden Cooper, Jaxon Moran, Langston Hyde, Dean Rogers, Isaac Tiggs, Benjamin, Duboise, Eli James, Tyson Ergle, Hudson Hulsey, Gunner Cummings, Amos Nix and Hudson Hill. The Bobcats were coached by Jerad Cooper, Ben Hulsey, Jay Duboise and Jamie Duboise.

In the 10U tournament, Russellville received a first-round bye in the seven-team bracket and was then eliminated after playing Dothan National and Southeastern. Taking the state championship was Troy.

Members of the Russellville team were Jax Hester, Wyatt McKinney, Eli Willis, Grant Little, Jack Montgomery, Jaden Nava, Easton Porter, Conner Rothstein, Jr. Valdez, Drake Glass and Carson Seal. The team was coached by Scott Porter, Mitch McKinney and Matt Glass.
