Russellville City Schools holds grand opening for new RHS building

Russellville City Schools held an open house Monday for the public to view the new addition to Russellville High School.

It will house all of the administrative offices and meeting spaces for RHS, the RHS special education department, the Spanish and English as a Second Language classes, art and all of the classes in the RHS science department, including two new science labs for biology and chemistry.

After breaking ground on the project in October 2020, RCS Superintendent Dr. Heath Grimes said it was great to finally be at this point of hosting an open house for the community and preparing to welcome students in a few weeks.

“We have been looking forward to this for what seems like a long time,” Grimes said. “All of us here at RCS have been excited, but we know our community has been anxiously anticipating the completion of this new building as well. Many new memories will be made for our current and future students.”

The south corridor of the school has special doors that can be closed off to serve as a tornado shelter.

“The doors and walls are reinforced steel,” explained Grimes, “and those, along with the windows, are made to withstand 250 mile per hour winds.”

“We are so excited for the community to see the work that’s been done and to see what a great new addition this building is to our campus and community,” added RHS Principal Dr. Jason Goodwin. “Our teachers, staff, and administrative team have all been working hard to be able to start the new school year in this building, and it’s great to see it all coming together. We look forward to many successful years here continuing our Russellville tradition of excellence.”
