Red Bay High School graduate Dawn Rogers steps into her new role as principal at Phil Campbell Elementary School.

New face takes PCES principal role

“I’m excited to be joining the school and community,” explained Dawn Rogers, new principal at Phil Campbell Elementary School.

Former PCES principal Channing Wright has departed to be the assistant principal at Russellville Elementary School.

Before making her way to Phil Campbell, Rogers spent 25 years working in education in Itawamba County, Mississippi, with 18 as a classroom teacher and seven in administration.

“I have taught kindergarten, first, fourth, fifth and sixth grade,” said Rogers. Her experience spans three schools in the same county and district, including one year as assistant principal and six as principal at Tremont Attendance Center.

Although new to Phil Campbell, Rogers is no stranger to the area. She graduated from Red Bay High School and attended the University of North Alabama. She got her master’s degree at Ole Miss.

“I’m looking forward to interacting with all of the kids, teachers and parents, as well as others in the community,” she added. “My heart has always been with the elementary group. They’re still impressionable and motivated to learn at this age, and they’re still enjoying school and the learning process. Before, I was working with K-12, and that’s such a wide spectrum. I wanted to narrow it down.

“I can’t wait to get started at PCES.”

Rogers has been married for 26 years to Shaun Rogers, who works for the Mississippi Forestry Commission. Children include daughter Kailee, a senior at UNA who is majoring in criminal justice, and son Konnor, who recently graduated high school and is pursuing a career in welding.
