Tharptown Wildcats face 2022 season under new head coach

For the first time since 2016, the Tharptown Wildcats will be led by a new head coach. Jacob Hamilton will lead the Wildcats in the 2022 season.

The Wildcats have four home games this year, with one of those games being the season opener against Shoals Christian Aug. 19 and the other to close the regular season against Whitesburg Christian Oct. 28.

The Wildcats’ region looks slightly different this year, with Colbert County and Mars Hill jumping to Class 3A. Replacing them are Falkville. Lindsay Lane was supposed to be the other region game, but the school had to cancel its season because of having too few players.

THARPTOWN VS. SHOALS CHRISTIAN

The Wildcats open up at home Aug. 19 facing off against the Shoals Christian Flame, a team they beat this past year 22-6. Tharptown is 5-8 against the Flame.

THARPTOWN AT PHILLIPS

Tharptown will take to the road Aug. 26, traveling to Bear Creek to play Phillips. Tharptown got the win this past year because of a COVID-19 forfeit by the Bears. The Wildcats beat the Bears on the field in 2020 12-6, but Tharptown is 4-9 historically against Phillips.

THARPTOWN VS. TANNER

Sept. 2 Tharptown returns home to face Tanner. The Wildcats haven’t faced the Rattlers since 2019, when they lost 39-3. Tharptown has only played Tanner twice, losing both times.

THARPTOWN AT HATTON

The Wildcats go on the road to Hatton Sept. 9. Tharptown is 0-8 against the Hornets. The Wildcats lost this past year’s game 40-7.

THARPTOWN AT LEXINGTON

Sept. 16 Tharptown goes on the road to Lexington. The Wildcats lost to the Golden Bears 67-0 this past year.

THARPTOWN AT CHEROKEE

Sept. 23 Tharptown goes on the road for a third straight Friday night – this time to Cherokee, to play the Indians. Tharptown beat Cherokee 64-0 this past year, and the Wildcats are 3-5 historically against Cherokee.

THARPTOWN VS. RED BAY

The Wildcats return home Sept. 30 to play Red Bay. Tharptown has never beaten the Tigers, going 0-8 against the cross-county foe. Tharptown lost this game 54-7 this past year.

This will be the Wildcats’ homecoming game.

Oct. 7 was shaping up to be a favorable region game for the Wildcats – that is, until Lindsay Lane canceled its season. This will now be an open week for the Wildcats to prep for the final three weeks of the season.

THARPTOWN AT SHEFFIELD

Oct. 13, a Thursday night, Tharptown will travel to Sheffield. The Wildcats are 0-4 against the Bulldogs. Tharptown lost this game 47-0 in 2021.

THARPTOWN AT FALKVILLE

Tharptown will play a new region opponent they have never faced Oct. 21. The Wildcats will travel to Falkville. The Blue Devils went 4-6 last year, losing their last five straight games.

THARPTOWN AT FALKVILLE

The Wildcats will close out the regular season Oct. 28 hosting another team they have never played, Whitesburg Christian. The Warriors played their first season of high school football and went 3-7. Whitesburg Christian beat the Wildcats’ opening opponent, Shoals Christian, 61-14 this past year.
