VOLLEYBALL SPOTLIGHT: BELGREEN BULLDOGS

One thing Belgreen’s Susie Tverberg knows about her teams is they are always different – and sometimes that requires flexibility on her part and her players’ part. That will be the Bulldogs’ focus as thy head into the 2022 season.

“They have really impressed me this summer with their flexibility,” said Tverberg. “We have made a lot of changes and moved players to new positions on the court. The players were very receptive and open to instruction.”

Tverberg said her team’s biggest challenge is going to be youth and inexperience.

“We are young and limited in varsity-level playing experience,” said Tverberg. “The key to our success is going to depend on our ability to execute our plan. Each person has a job to do, and they must do it and do it well.”

Tverberg returns three key players to her varsity team in Noelle Willingham, Carson Hovater and Hannah Borden.

“Noelle is our setter and will also be a hitter this year. She is our only senior, and she brings such energy to our team,” said Tverberg. “She is so competitive, and that tends to be contagious.”

Hovater, a 5-foot-11 freshman, returns as the Bulldogs’ middle hitter. Borden will also be a hitter.

Belgreen finished the season this past year 20-20 and was runner up in the area.

The Bulldogs compete in Class 1A in an area with Phillips and Hackleburg.
