After practically every team in Northwest Alabama rescheduled games to Thursday night because of rain forecasted for Friday night, Vina held firm so as not to spoil Homecoming night. The decision turned out to be a good one, with very little rain during the day and some light drizzle during the game. A second half defensive lapse, however, did what the forecast could not, with the Red Devils falling 44-16 to Shoals Christian.

A good opening drive by Vina was negated by a fumble at the Shoals Christian 28–yard line.

The Flame had an equally impressive drive cut short by a fumble recovered by Vina with 4:13 to go in the first quarter, but the Red Devils couldn’t capitalize.

The score was deadlocked at 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Vina squandered another drive midway through the second quarter when, fumbling the ball at the Flame 27 yard line with 7:43 to go in the second quarter.

Shoals Christian took advantage, getting the first score of the game on a 3-yard run with 5:11 to go in the half, taking a 6-0 lead.

Vina responded immediately with a 72-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Trevor Baker. The two-point conversion run by Conner Davidson gave Vina an 8-6 lead.

The Red Devils recovered another Flame fumble, this time on the Shoals Christian 27–yard line with 4:42 to go in the half. Vina capitalized on this one, scoring on a 12-yard pass from Wyatt Kennedy to Baker with 2:39 to go in the half. The two-point conversion run gave the Red Devils a 16-6 lead.

Shoals Christian responded with a big play, scoring on a 53-yarder on the first play of the drive. After converting a two–point play, the Flame cut the Red Devil lead to 16-14 going into halftime.

The second half would not be kind to Vina. Shoals Christian went on to score 30 unanswered points to easily win the game 44-16.

Shelby Millem was crowned Vina’s Homecoming Queen at halftime.

The Red Devils will travel to Woodville Friday night.
