Phil Campbell stuffs Colbert Heights on Senior Night

After two tough losses, the Phil Campbell Bobcats found themselves facing a must-win situation with Colbert Heights coming to town. The Bobcats responded with a statement, shutting out the Wildcats 36-0 on Senior Night.

It was seniors getting the job done for the Bobcats. Kyle Pace and Bryant Hyde combined for nine of 13 passing for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Hyde also ran the ball 12 times for 120 yards and a touchdown. Sage Raper carried the ball nine times for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Phil Campbell had 371 yards of total offense and held Colbert Heights to 178 yards.

“We had players making plays all over the field tonight,” said Phil Campbell Coach Kevin Barnwell. “It was an emotional night, being Senior Night.”

Two of the Bobcats’ best playmakers – Noah Raper and Braxton Goodson – were playing in leg braces with torn ACLs.

“Those guys made some big plays for us tonight,” said Barnwell. “They showed a lot of heart.”

Phil Campbell scored first, midway through the first quarter on a short run by Kyle Pace. Hyde added the two-point conversion run to give the Bobcats an 8-0 lead.

Phil Campbell scored again with 4:24 to go in the second quarter on a two-yard run by Pace to make the score 14-0.

Sage Raper scored a nifty 14-yard run with 38 seconds to go in the third quarter to put the game out of reach, 20-0.

Phil Campbell added two more scores in the fourth quarter: on a 57-yard run by Hyde and a 12-yard pass from Pace to Goodson.

Mason Weeks and Jeitt Traywick led the Bobcat defense with eight tackles each.

Phil Campbell will travel to Clements Friday night. A win will seal a play-off spot for the Bobcats.
