Russellville observes Veterans Day with parade this Sunday

American Legion Post 64 will host its annual Veterans Day parade this Sunday at 2 p.m. in downtown Russellville.

“I think it’s grown every year,” said Grant Atkins. “In the past, we’ve had a lot of antique cars, as well as horses and wagons. Some groups bring their motorcycles and ride through the parade,” he added, noting some veterans will ride on Army vehicles or antique cars, while others will walk or put a sign on the door and bring their own car.

Atkins said veterans will gather at the Todd Centre a little after 1 p.m. to figure out rides. The Russellville High School Marching Hundred band and other groups will line up at Big Star, and the parade route will be the same as in previous years.

“We have been blessed in the past to have pretty weather, and we’re hoping for a big crowd,” Atkins said.

Those interested in participating in the parade can call him at 256-627-2866 for more information.

“We hope the community will come out and recognize our veterans,” added Atkins. “The veterans all enjoy the parade a lot, and the community has always been very supportive.”
