Belgreen starts basketball season with wins

The Belgreen Bulldogs tipped off the 2022-23 basketball season with a pair of wins against Tremont, Mississippi. The varsity girls won 61-30. The varsity boys won 48-40.

GIRLS

Sophomore Dacota Green powered the varsity girls with 24 points, making three three-pointers.

Belgreen jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter behind eight points from Green and extended that lead to 29-14 at halftime.

Green and Isabelle Tate combined for 16 of Belgreen’s 18 points in the third quarter to put the game away, taking a 47-22 lead. Green scored 10 points in the quarter, and Tate had six points.

Tate had 14 points for the Bulldogs. Brynn Scott added eight points, Noelle Willingham five points, Carson Hovater four points, Makenna Fisher four points and Jacqueline Alban two points.

BOYS

In the varsity boys game, Austin James and Braycen Johnson scored 18 points each to help Belgreen to the 48-40 win.

Belgreen and Tremont were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter. James scored nine of the Bulldogs’ 13 firstquarter points.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the second quarter and led 25-21 at halftime.

Belgreen maintained a fourpoint lead in the third quarter, leading 33-29. The Bulldogs outscored Tremont 15-11 in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Will King followed James and Johnson with eight points. Alex Guidry and Jonathan Mendoza scored two points each.
