Garden club members work on preparing decorations for downtown Russellville.

Cultura Garden Club starts Christmas decorations

The Every Light a Prayer for Peace and Christmas Tree Lighting was the topic for the Cultura Garden Club November meeting. This annual event is coming up; it will be held Dec. 1 at the Franklin County Court House from 4:15-5 p.m., followed by the Russellville Christmas parade.

The entertainment will be presented by the RHS/RMS Chorus, directed by Aaron Freeman, and the RES Fifth Grade Chorus, directed by Lauren Ritter. Caroline Sparks will perform The National Anthem.

As in the past, veterans, active military, front-line workers, first responders and EMS will be recognized and presented a memento for their valor, dedication and service.

The message and prayer will be given by Pastor Wade Wallace and youth minister Jacob Wallace of Calvary Baptist Church.

This meeting started with a work session at the Russellville Old Firehouse. Members began work on preparing for the downtown Christmas decorations by fluffing garland, wreaths and bows, replacing ornaments and checking bulbs.

Afterward the meeting was moved to the Russellville City Hall board room.

Serving as hostesses were Donna Lowery and Debra Spillers. Plans were made for collecting toys for the Russellville Fire Department Christmas Toy Project.

The program was how to propagate one of the South’s favorite flowers – the hydrangea.

Members were also reminded that fall is the perfect time to plant shrubs and trees because they get all winter to deepen and strengthen their roots before spring comes and the above-ground growth starts. Also keep herb gardening going– such as dill, sage, cilantro and parsley – because they like cool weather.
