RFD donates money through annual breast cancer fundraiser

Through its annual T-shirt fundraiser, the Russellville Fire Department raised $2,178.40, which it presented to Russellville Hospital Nov. 11 for the hospital’s Firemen’s Fund.

It’s a partnership they’ve had for the past 12 years. The fund is used to offer free mammograms at Russellville Hospital to those who are uninsured and have no other resources to pay for the screening.

For RFD, it’s one of the ways fire personnel look forward to helping each year.

“We’re proud to be able to raise money for a good cause,” explained RFD Deputy Chief Randy Seal. “We’re glad all the money stays here to help our community. Sgt. Grant Tarascou started heading up this fundraiser this year, and he’s doing a great job.”

Russellville Hospital Chief Executive Officer Stephen Proctor explained the donation will cover an increasing number of individual screening mammograms, noting the screenings are crucial to help save lives.

“We are extremely blessed and thankful for the continued partnership with Russellville Fire Department and for their generous donation,” Proctor added. “Early detection of breast cancer is the greatest opportunity for successful treatment.”
