Phil Campbell boys get off to hot start

The Phil Campbell varsity boys are off to a hot start. The Bobcats beat Hubbertville, Phillips and Hackleburg this past week to start the season 3-0. The Bobcat boys have scored 20 or more points in nine of their first 12 quarters so far this season.

The girls team also claimed a win, topping Hubbertville 63-24.

BOYS

Phil Campbell 79, Hubbertville 50

The Bobcats had four players in double figures in their season opener against Hubbertville, winning 79-50.

Quentin Hyde scored 17 points, followed by Kyle Pace with 15. Bryant Hyde and Canaan Clay scored 11 points each in the win.

The Bobcats trailed the Lions 13-11 at the end of the first quarter but exploded for 27 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 38-25 halftime lead.

The Bobcats kept up the scoring barrage in the third quarter to take a 59-36 lead and coast to the win.

Rounding out the Bobcat scoring were Cole Pace with six points, Sage Raper with five points, Gage Baker with four points, Tre McCulloch with three points, Clay Morgan with three points and Robby Robinson with two points.

Phil Campbell 72, Phillips 35

Phil Campbell took control of the Phillips Bears early and cruised to an easy 72-35 win.

The Bobcats led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter and 40-16 at halftime before extending their lead to 49-23 by the end of the third quarter.

Kyle Pace and Quentin Hyde led the Bobcats with 15 points and 14 points respectively.

Phil Campbell 72, Hackleuburg 34

Phil Campbell easily beat a young Hackleburg team 72-34.  The Panthers didn’t have a starter above the 10th grade, and it showed from the start.

Phil Campbell took control from the start with a 21-12 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 42-18 by halftime. The Bobcats led 64-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Clay led Phil Campbell with 20 points, including 13 in the first quarter. Kyle Pace and Quentin Hyde added 14 points each.

GIRLS

The Phil Campbell varsity girls trounced the Hubbertville Lions and fell short of the Belmont Cardinals this past week.

Phil Campbell 63, Hubbertville 24

Phil Campbell took complete control of the Hubbertville game early and went on to win easily 63-24.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a 16-8 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 45-14 at halftime. The Bobcat girls led 55-21 at the end of the third quarter.

Sophomore Macy Hardy led Phil Campbell with 18 points followed by Madison Branch with 11 points.

Sidda Rogers added nine points, Allie Herring four points, Hannah Welborn four points, Ayla Stowe three points, Kaylie Motes two points and Isabel Ashley two points.

Belmont 52, Phil Campbell 43

After leading for much of the game, Phil Campbell fell short against Belmont. The Cardinals had a strong fourth quarter to overtake the Bobcats and win 52-43.

Hardy led the Bobcats with 16 points, followed by Branch with 14 points.
