GIRLS

The Phil Campbell varsity girls team picked up a couple of wins during the holidays. The Bobcat girls beat Westminster Christian 46-34 and Decatur Heritage 36-35.

The game against Westminster was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter. All 12 of the Bobcats’ first quarter points came from Macy Hardy and Hannah Welborn.

Phil Campbell held a slight edge at halftime, 20-18, and the Bobcats extended their lead to 37-26 at the end of the third quarter and closed out with the win.

Hardy led Phil Campbell with 15 points, followed by Welborn with 13 points and Madison Branch with 10 points. Branch was six-for-eight from the free throw line.

Sidda Rogers added four points. Allie Herring and Kaylie Motes scored two points each.

In the Decatur Heritage game, Phil Campbell had to come from behind to win.

The Eagles jumped out to an 18-6 first quarter lead and extended their lead over the Bobcats to 26-10 at halftime.

Phil Campbell stepped up the defense in the second half, outscoring Decatur Heritage 14-3 in the third quarter and 12-6 in the fourth quarter to squeak out the win.

Branch led the Bobcats with 10 points.

BOYS

The Phil Campbell boys fell to the Shoals Christian Flame in the finals of their holiday tournament last week.  The Bobcats picked up wins over Lamar County and Addison to advance to the finals.

Phil Campbell lost to Shoals Christian 51-49. The Bobcats scored 21 points in the first half and 38 in the second half. Bryant Hyde and Quentin Hyde led Phil Campbell with 13 points and 12 points respectively.  Bryant Hyde scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter, while Quentin Hyde scored six of his 12 points in the second quarter.

Kyle Pace added seven points, and Gage Baker had six points. Sage Raper, Canaan Clay and Robby Robinson scored three points each. Cole Pace finished with two points.

In the semifinals, Phil Campbell beat Addison 60-44.

Quentin Hyde led the Bobcats with 22 points. He was followed by Kyle Pace with 12 points.

In the opening game of the tournament, the Bobcats beat Lamar County 69-48. Phil Campbell led 40-22 at halftime and cruised to the win. Bryant Hyde and Canaan Clay led with 16 points each.
