Tharptown falls late to Colbert Heights

The Tharptown Wildcats fell to the Colbert Heights Wildcats in a close one this past week, 63-61.

Colbert Heights jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead, but Tharptown was able to climb back and take a 25-24 lead at halftime. Tharptown increased that lead to 47-40 in the third quarter, but foul trouble caught up to the THS Wildcats in the fourth quarter, costing them the game.

Dylan Valdez led Tharptown with 31 points. He scored 13 in the third quarter and eight in the fourth. Valdez also went six-for-six from the free throw line.

Hunter Motes hit a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points. Malachi Minor and Edwin Vela added six points each. Jackson Clement had four points, Jared Sales three points, Dylan Dolley two points, Dalton Maldonado two points and Israel Sanchez one point.

Tharptown 61, Waterloo 22

Tharptown beat Waterloo 61-22 in game one of holiday action. The Wildcats held a big lead at halftime over the Cougars, 36-13.

Valdez led with 21 points. Minor followed with 10 points, going eight-for-eight from the free throw line.
