Phil Campbell boys top Belgreen with 50-34 finish

The Phil Campbell Bobcats shut out the Belgreen Bulldogs in the second quarter of their game this past week, and that was enough to give the Bobcats space to beat the Bulldogs 50-34.

Phil Campbell led Belgreen 15-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Bulldogs 7-0 in the second quarter to take a 22-11 halftime lead and extended that lead to 37-25 in the third quarter.

Kyle Pace led Phil Campbell with 13 points, followed by Sage Raper with 12 points and Bryant Hyde with 10. Quentin Hyde added seven points, Canaan Clay six points, Cole Pace two points and Gage Baker two points.

Belgreen’s Austin James led all scorers with 17 points. Ely Mitchell, Alex Guidry and Braycen Johnson scored four points each. Landon Cox added three points, and Hunter Woodruff tacked on two points.

In other recent action, Phil Campbell didn’t fare so well. The Bobcats lost their first area game of the year to Danville 56-49. The Hawks led the Bobcats 13-13 at the end of the first quarter, 30-25 at halftime and 42-36 at the end of the third quarter. Clay led the Bobcats with 14 points, followed by Hyde with 13 points.

In other recent action for Belgreen, on the other hand, James and Johnson combined for 42 of Belgreen’s 56 points in a 56-52 win over the Tharptown Wildcats this past week.

Belgreen led Tharptown 12-9 at the end of the first quarter.  Tharptown outscored Belgreen 15-14 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 26-24, but Belgreen outscored Tharptown 15-14 in the third and fourth quarter to hang on to the win.

James led Belgreen with 22 points, followed by Johnson with 20 points. Ten of James’ points came in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs.

Mitchell added six points, Cox four points, Will King two points and Jonathan Mendoza two points.

Tharptown was led by Edwin Vela with 13 points, followed by Dylan Valdez with 12 points and Jackson Clement with 10 points. Malachi Minor added nine points, Dawson Higgins six points and Dylan Dolley two points.

Belgreen also beat Waterloo this past week, 51-23. The Bulldogs led 14-2 at the end of the first quarter and 24-6 at halftime, cruising to the win.

Johnson led Belgreen with 23 points. He scored 16 in the second half alone.

Belgreen lost to Addison, 67-42. James led the Bulldogs with 18 points.
