The Russellville Golden Tigers wrapped up basketball action before Christmas with games in the TimesDaily Classic.

After a first round bye in the TD Classic, the RHS varsity boys took on the Brooks Lions. The Golden Tigers got scoring from a dozen players en route to a 73-45 win.

Russellville trailed 18-14 after the first quarter of play but rallied with an 18-9 second period to take a 32-27 lead into the halftime break. A 23-8 third quarter for RHS helped put the game away.

Playing in his second varsity game, EJ King led the Golden Tigers in scoring with 18 points. He was followed in double figures by Mike Young with 13.

Gavin Hyde added nine, Amir Williams seven and Conner Warhurst six. KJ Murray and Malachi Duncan had five points apiece. Scoring two points each were Jah Williams, Bralynn Vincent, Tilmon Baker, Malachi Gholston and Randell Johnson.

Flowers Hall, on the campus of the University of North Alabama, was the site for the semi-final matchup of the TD Classic between Russellville and the Florence Falcons Dec. 19.

RHS got off to a 12-5 start with the help of hot shooting from Duncan, but the Falcons overcame the early deficit to get a 69-54 victory.

Florence held a 41-28 advantage at the half. Russellville outdid the Falcons in the third period by an 18-12 total, but FHS was able to pull away down the stretch to advance to the finals.

Russellville (6-6) was led in scoring by Amir Williams’ 19 points. Duncan added 14, Vincent and King scored seven each, and Warhurst added three.

Dec. 1, Russellville hosted the Hamilton Aggies in both boys’ and girls’ varsity games. In the boys’ contest, RHS got the win by a 76-50 score. The girls fell by a 53-49 score, led by Jenna Whitfield’s 14 points and Ella Copeland’s 13.
