Vina girls get 57-27 tourney win

The Vina Red Devils picked up a big 57-27 win over the Cherokee Indians at the Waterloo Christmas Tournament this past week.

Kaitlyn Athey led the charge with 24 points, making seven three-pointers. Athey made three treys in the first and second quarters.

Vina jumped out to a big 15-7 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 33-13 at halftime. Vina put the game on ice in the third quarter, taking a 47-23 lead.

Sara Harper hit a pair of three points to follow Athey with 10 points and added nine assists.

Kaley Attaway and K.K. Mitchell scored seven points each. Khylie Brooks added five points. Kari Harper and Carley Blevins scored two points each.

Vina lost to eventual tournament champion Woodville, 61-35.

Athey led in that game with 18 points, followed by Harper with six, Mitchell with four, Kenzie Elrond with three, Attaway with two and Brooks with two.
