Student-athletes return to diamond

After a week of rain and storms and cold, the sun shone brightly, the temperature began to warm up, and a hint of spring teased as baseball players took to the diamonds.

The Phil Campbell Bobcats got their season off to a hot start at the expense of Tharptown, with the Bobcats scoring eight runs in the first inning on the way to a 12-0 win.

Robbie Robinson led the bats for the Bobcats with a homerun, a single and two runs batted in, and he scored twice.

Hunter Baker also had twos across the stat line with two singles, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Cam Habada had a two-hit day with a double and single. Bryant Anthony also doubled for the Bobcats. Sage Raper, Jacob Barnwell, and Cody Quinn also added hits for Phil Campbell.

Dawson Higgins got Tharptown’s lone hit.

Cole Pace pitched the one-hitter for the Bobcats, striking out five.

Tharptown lost to Hatton the night before, and Belgreen lost to Colbert Heights 12-2. Will King and Hunter Woodruff got the Bulldogs’ two hits, while King and Caige Smith scored Belgreen’s two runs.
