Gusts shatter library window

Monday afternoon strong winds blew through and shattered the far left window on the front of the Russellville Public Library.

RPL director Joshlyn Bowen said the incident occurred at 2:37 p.m. She said she was in her office at the time, and no patrons or staff were injured. There did not appear to be any other damage.

Bowen said the impact was a shock and resulted in glass shards of various sizes littering the area around the base of the window. She made sure patrons were safely escorted from the site as soon as possible.

Following the incident, Bowen called Russellville city building inspector Bill Fuller. She said he came right out to assess the situation and immediately called out an adjustor to analyze the damage.

Fuller said it took “a little over an hour” in total to address the situation. Members of the Russellville Street Department put up plywood to secure the window until the glass can be replaced.

Cliff Stewart, president of North Alabama Glass Company in Sheffield responded and estimated 2-3 weeks to get the window in.

Bowen praised the speed of the city’s response to the damage.
