BHS youth shine in sweep

The Belgreen Bulldogs swept Tremont, Miss., this past week with 17-2 and 12-9 wins.

Although the veteran top of the lineup carried the bulk of the load, it was the youth that shined brightly for the Bulldogs. Seventhgraders Rush Berryman, Ty Hamilton and Colton Ashton played big roles in Belgreen’s wins.

In the first game, Belgreen’s 14-run second inning blew the game wide open.

Landon Cox went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored three times. Caige Smith had two hits, including a double, an RBI and scored twice. Will King doubled, had two RBIs and scored twice. Alex Guidry singled, had two RBIs and scored.

Berryman recorded his first varsity hits, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored twice.

Smith pitched four innings of shutout ball and allowed three hits, striking out seven.

In the second game against Tremont, Belgreen led 6-3 after one inning, but Tremont cut the lead to 6-5 after two innings. Belgreen scored four in the third to make the score 10-5, but Tremont kept battling back, cutting the Bulldog lead to 10-9.

Belgreen scored runs in the sixth and seventh to put the game away.

King had three hits, including a double, two RBIs and scored three times. Cox had two hits, three RBIs and scored. Smith had two hits, an RBI and scored. Guidry had a hit, two RBIs and scored.

Hamilton got his first varsity hit and scored a run. Ashton also recorded his first varsity hit, RBI and run. Berryman added an RBI and scored.
