Russellville softball gets exciting win at Lawrence

The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers evened their area record at 1-1 and improved to 8-11 on the season with an exciting 6-3 win in 11 innings at Lawrence County.

Russellville’s Brooklyn Butler doubled in the top half of inning 11 to bring home Addison Holcomb for the go-ahead run after both teams scored twice in the ninth. Butler had four hits in six at bats and three RBIs to lead RHS.

Emma Campbell and Paislee James collected three hits each for the Lady Tigers. Two hits each came from Summer Butler, Jenna Whitfield, Addison Holcomb and Haylee Rikard. Natalie Nichols also helped the team with one hit. Rikard drove in two runs, and Nichols had one RBI.

James was also outstanding in the pitching circle. James picked up a complete game win, throwing 138 pitches. She allowed one earned run, issued one walk and struck out two.

Earlier in the week, Russellville went to Hatton High School March 20 and dropped a game to the Lady Hornets by a 9-3 final score.

The Lady Tigers got off to a hot start by grabbing a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning, but Hatton answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. HHS then added four more runs during the next inning and a single run in the third and sixth.

The other Russellville run came in the top of the game’s fifth inning.

RHS collected six hits, with Campbell and Brooklyn Butler getting two each. Summer Butler and Whitfield also hit safely. Doubles were collected by Brooklyn Butler and Whitfield. Campbell had the two Russellville RBIs. Brooklyn Butler, Holcomb and Jemma Moore did the pitching for RHS.
