Russellville Public Library holds summer’s first summer reading program event

“The 2023 summer reading program kickoff event was a blast!” said Russellville Public Library director Joshlyn Bowen.

“We had a few mishaps with scheduled appearances, but I just rolled with it with help from my amazing staff, Peggy Harrison and Kerri Gandy, as well as Maria Mojica, a member of the library board.”

Bowen said it was a good time had by all.
“At the end of the day, laughter was heard, smiles were limitless and memories were made,” she explained. “Shirley Jimenez and her team of artists were as amazing as always, and the kids loved their ice cream from the Russellville Ice Cream Truck.”

Bowen said each child received their summer reading logs to help keep them active in daily reading.
“We encourage the children to read thirty minutes every day, and those who hit their goal every week get to choose a prize from the treasure chest,” she added.

“Programs like the summer reading program show an increased reading retention rate of 80% when the children start back to school. Our goal for the day was to make one new friend. I look forward to next Friday’s event with the McWane Center.”
