Overview summarizes late coaching hires for fall sports

Students returned to the hallways of their schools this week. Many students, however, have been on campus for much of the summer, and in recent days, getting ready for the upcoming sports seasons.

Last week was the real calm before the storm as teachers returned to school to prepare for the new year. Coaches began preparing in earnest for the 2023 seasons of football and volleyball.

This week, all sports began official preparations for the season which will officially begin on August 24 and 25.

This time of the year is always ripe with excitement and anticipation. Every team has hope. No one has served a volley or scored a touchdown. Coaches are pushing their players to get in shape and working to build team chemistry.
Some schools have added head coaches late in the summer, so there will be some catching up to do.

At Phil Campbell, Jacob Hamilton was hired as the head football coach, replacing Kevin Barnwell who resigned to take a position at Haleyville High School.

Julianna Taylor was hired as the head volleyball coach, replacing Amy Moss, who started as the Bobcat volleyball coach two years ago. Moss will continue to help Taylor coach the Bobcats.

At Tharptown, John Johnson was hired as the head football coach, replacing Hamilton.

At Vina, Cody Renfrow was hired as the head football coach, replacing Luke Childers.
