RHS takes part in ACLAC week

Representatives from various colleges visited Russellville High School during the annual Alabama College Application Campaign week.

“I would like to thank our colleges for coming out and helping our students apply to college during ACLAC week I would also like to thank our community sponsors, including Community Spirit Bank, Valley State Bank and Walmart,” said Alissa Moore, RHS school counselor. “Walmart, Papa John’s and Russellville Nutrition also donated.”

During this week each year, colleges in Alabama waive their application fees.

“There are 208 seniors this year,” Moore explained. “That’s the biggest class that’s ever come through Russellville High School

Moore said the week plus preparations amounted to at least two weeks in order to help students taken full advantage of the opportunity.

“We met with every senior on campus,” she added. “We talked about the three E’s — employ, enroll or enlist. We have field trips, college fairs and career fairs we take the students on to help them prepare for their futures.”

Moore said the focus will turn more to the type of jobs that interest the students in the spring.

“Having a plan for after high school is very important,” she added. “The kids needs to think about what they want to do after graduation.”

More said the goal is to empower the students to learn about their options and take steps to work toward achieving their goals.

“We work to help the students make informed decisions about what they want and try to help them go about preparing to do what they can in order to make that happen,” she added.
