Russellville softball team competes at 5A North Regional to end season

The Russellville High School varsity softball team competed in the AHSAA Class 5A North Regional at the Florence Sportsplex May 7-8. The Lady Golden Tigers went 2-2 in the double-elimination tournament to finish the season with a record of 26-23-1 under first-year head coach Rick Lawson.

Russellville 2, Springville 1

Russellville started regional play with a big victory over the No. 1 ranked 5A team in the state.

Jacey Moore pitched a complete game to get the win. Moore struck out five batters and allowed six hits during the seven-inning contest.

Paislee James had a third inning single that brought home two runs to give RHS the lead. Springville’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth. Ticelee Gholston added two hits for Russellville, and Khristyan Huerta had one. Huerta and Sadie Odom scored the Russellville runs.

Jasper 3, Russellville 1

Game two of the day and of the regional for RHS was against 5A No. 3 ranked Jasper. The Vikings scored single runs in the first, fifth and sixth innings to get the win.

Russellville scored in the bottom of the first inning with the help of stolen bases by Paislee James. RHS had one hit and it came off the bat of Brooklyn Butler.

Jacey Moore went all seven innings in the pitching circle for the second time of the day. Moore struck out 10 Vikings and allowed five hits.

Russellville 6, Brewer 0

The Lady Golden Tigers stayed alive in the regional with a shutout win over the Brewer Patriots May 8 in an elimination game.

Russellville used two senior pitchers to get the victory. Jacey Moore got the start and went five innings. The right-hander allowed one hit and struck out 11 batters. Paislee James worked the game’s final two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three Patriots.

Bryleigh Butler had two hits, including a triple and three RBI. James added two hits and a RBI while Brooklyn Butler had a single and drove-in a run. Russellville also got hits from Addison Holcomb and Khristyan Huerta.

Springville 11, Russellville 1

The Springville Tigers led from start to finish in the six-inning game to end the RHS season May 8.

Russellville had five hits, including a home run by Addison Holcomb. Paislee James had two hits, while Brooklyn Butler and Emma Campbell added singles.

Moore got the start in the circle and went four innings before Brooklyn Butler pitched the final two frames in relief.

Springville was later defeated in the tournament by Hayden High School. Both Hayden and Jasper advanced to state.
