Coaching changes take place for area teams

Coaching changes happen every year in the months of May, June and July. So far, this summer has been much more stable than last. Below is the current list of changes that have occurred recently across Franklin County. The list will be updated as warranted.

Belgreen

Volleyball – Alison Terry will replace Julianna Potts as the Bulldogs head volleyball coach. Terry, who will teach first grade, comes to Belgreen from Hatton. Potts resigned and took a job in Ripley, Miss.

Boys Basketball – Will Bonner will replace Marty Cooper as the Bulldogs head boys basketball coach. Bonner, two years removed from high school, served as Cooper’s assistant last year. Cooper has retired from coaching.

Cross Country – Belgreen currently has a cross-country coach opening.

Phil Campbell

Boys Basketball – Shannon Benford will replace Shane Clay as the head boys basketball coach at Phil Campbell. Benford was serving as an assistant football and baseball coach for the Bobcats. He was previously a head basketball coach at Tharptown. Clay resigned from coaching and will remain on staff at Phil Campbell.

Red Bay

There have been no coaching changes to date for the Tigers.

Russellville

There were no reported coaching changes for the Golden Tigers.

Tharptown

Boys Basketball

Jason Cooper will replace Kamri Fleming as the head girls basketball coach at Tharptown. Cooper was already a teacher and assistant boys basketball coach for the Wildcats. Fleming remains the head volleyball coach at Tharptown.

Girls Track

Braxton Craig will replace Tanna Benford as the girls track coach at Tharptown. Craig is currently a teacher and assistant coach at Tharptown. Benford transferred to Phil Campbell.

Football

Lucas Craft was hired as a teacher and assistant football coach at Tharptown. He will serve as the offensive coordinator for the Wildcats.

Vina

There have been no coaching changes to date for the Red Devils.
