Golden Tigers represent Russellville during All-Star Sports Week

The 28th annual AHSAA Summer Conference and All-Star Sports Week took place in Montgomery July 15-19, and Russellville High School was represented during the North-South All-Star games for boys’ soccer, baseball and girls’ tennis.

Russellville High School boys’ soccer standout Manny Martinez participated in the match for the North team that defeated the South squad by a 4-1 final score at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex July 17.

The North team got two goals and an assist from MVP Camren Thompson. The victory improves the lead of the North All-Stars in the all-time series to 16-4-1 over the South in boys’ soccer.

Russellville High School baseball was represented on the North team by Neyland Baker. The designated hitter/first baseman got one at-bat during the 4-1 win by the South. The North-South baseball teams were scheduled to play a double-header, but bad weather at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium forced the cancellation of game two. The North leads the all-time series 24-18-4.

Russellville girls’ tennis head coach Charlotte Dollar was named to the North All-Star coaching staff. The tennis portion of the week was cut short due to rain July 16 at Lagoon Park with only the doubles matches being completed. No overall winner was awarded this year for the tennis event, and the North leads the all-time series for girls’ tennis 4-0.
