Russellville football booster club hosts golf tournament

The Russellville High School football booster club hosted a golf tournament fundraiser at Twin Pines Country Club Aug. 2.

Golfers in teams of four players each had the chance to show their skills on the course while supporting the football program. “Golf is a fun way to get everybody involved,” Russellville head football coach Dustin Goodwin said. “We had coaches playing, we had players playing and then we had members of the community playing. I always think it’s a great event.”

Goodwin shared that in the future, the football boosters will most likely have the event during the springtime instead of summertime. “We had a good turnout, and we’ll look to continue to grow it as we do it annually.”

Taking first place in the tournament was the team of Randy Cooper, Doug Clement, Pat Seal and Gerry Hanan. Second place finishers were Will Lane, Ike Alexander, Blake Logan and Tyler Childers. Third place went to the team consisting of Kelly Bragwell, Trenton Mathews, Jared Ward and Gene Matthews. Harlan Hutcheson won the closest to the pin contest.

“For this to be our first year, we feel that it went really well,” said Russellville football booster club president Jonathan Willis. “There was a good turnout, and we appreciate all the support we had. I think it helped build some excitement for the program also as we get close to the season.” Willis said a spring tournament is being considered, adding they believe it will draw a lot of interest as well.
