RHS football competes in Tiger Olympics

As the Olympics were taking place in Paris, the Russellville High School football program decided to have summer games of their own as the team wrapped-up offseason workouts heading into the fast-approaching fall practices with a Tiger Olympics of their own.

RHS football players went to the stadium and participated in many competitive events to complete their summer training as fall practice is set to begin in preparation for the first game of the season Aug. 23 at home versus Deshler High School.

“It’s just good for team morale,” Russellville head coach Dustin Goodwin said. “It’s good to divide guys up and everybody’s competing against one another and everybody’s rooting for somebody. It’s high energy, we fed them again and you look at it as team building and bonding. You’re still working, but it gets you away from football a little bit. It went really well, and I think the kids enjoyed it, and I know the coaches did. They were competing and arguing as much as the kids, if not worse.”

Goodwin said the event is something that also took place years ago when he was at RHS as an assistant, and it has always been a part of the summer schedule at each of the places in which he has been the head coach.
