The West Lauderdale Knights picked up a pair of wins at home Friday with a 10-0 blanking of the Raymond Rangers and an 11-2 drubbing of the Newton Tigers.
In the first game the sixth-ranked Knights (8-1) got a big grand slam from Brad McKee in the second inning to fuel the mercy rule triumph.
Bo Davis added a three-run shot in the fifth inning for the final margin.
West pitcher Ryan Clay threw a four-hitter and struck out five, while only walking one to notch his record to 2-0.
Trent Posey added a double for the Knights, who plated the runs on just five hits.
The Rangers hurt themselves by committing three errors.
West Lauderdale 11, Newton 2: The Knights' Josh Snider was the man in the second game, as he not only collected a pair of hits, but also struck out 14 Tiger batters to gain the victory.
Snider walked just two and gave up three hits.
Brent McMillan was saddled with the loss for the Tigers.
Todd Doolittle also had two hits for West and Ike Munn added three of the Knights 11 hits.
Morgan Craven belted a home run for Newton.
West Lauderdale travels to Alabama today, where the Knights will take on Greensboro in the afternoon and follow that up with a nightcap at Demopolis.
Union 7, Taylorsville 6: The Yellow Jackets got a win against host Taylorsville in the Tartars' Tournament.
B.J. Norton went 5 2/3 innings and allowed only one hit and two walks to give UHS a win.
A run in the top of the sixth snapped a 6-6 tie.
The Yellow Jackets (7-6) got a pair of hits from Zack Robinson. Andy McCullum took the loss for Taylorsville (4-8).
Union resumes play in the Taylorsville Tournament at 1 p.m. today when they take on Stringer.
Brandon 10, Wayne County 9: Wayne County jumped out to a 9-3 lead, but couldn't hold on and dropped Division 5-5A battle at Brandon.
The War Eagles fell to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in division play, despite banging out 14 hits.
Jade Roberts had three singles for Wayne County, while Colby Heathcock and Brett Wilson had a single and double each. Brandon Cooley added a double and Akeem Lofton had two singles.
Every Wayne County player in the lineup had at least one hit.
Ty Lawson (1-4) was charged with the loss after taking over for Michael Farmer in the sixth inning.
Wayne County returns to action Tuesday when the War Eagles host Meridian in another key division battle.
Late Results
Lake 9, Philadelphia 6: The Hornets scored three times in the top of the second to take control, then held off Philadelphia in the Broiler Bash at Forest earlier this week.
The tournament, which was postponed because of rain, will wrap up Wednesday at Lake with the championship contest between the Hornets and Neshoba Central. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
Lake's next contest is Monday at Sebastopol.
Against Philadelphia, Brandon Burrus smacked a grand slam home run in the first inning to help Lake ease to a 5-4 lead.
Bryan Williamson added three hits and two RBIs for the 9-3 H ornets.
Philadelphia, 7-5, got two hits from Ty Culpepper.
Eric Watkins (2-1) was the winning pitcher, while Culpepper was charged with the loss.
