Local pools to open this weekend

With the temperatures on the rise, many county residents will be looking for a place to cool off soon. The Russellville and Red Bay pools will be open this weekend so those who wish to cool off in the water can.

Red Bay clerk Tracie Bolding said the pool will open for the season Saturday, May 29, and will be open everyday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $6 per day.

Bolding said in addition to the pool with several water slides for kids of all ages, the city also has the skate park and park open each day as well.

“The water park area has a lot to offer our residents and visitors,” Bolding said. “The skate park is open for skateboarders, and we also have a walking trail around the park with picnic tables and a playground area for kids.”

Bolding said food and drinks cannot be brought into the water park, however, families can bring a cooler and enjoy lunch in the park.

Bolding said the park can rent for parties as well.

“We are accepting reservations for pool parties now,” Bolding said. “Anyone interested should call city hall as soon as possible because they are booked on a first come, first serve basis.”

The cost for a party is  $175 for two hours with 25 swimmers. Lifeguards will be provided during the party hours.

Swimming lessons are also being offered at the pool this summer with two sessions: June 7 through 11 and June 14 through 18 from 11 a.m. to noon each day.

“The cost of the swim lessons are $25 and they are taught by our certified lifeguards,” Bolding said.

Russellville will open their city pool on May 31 from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

Swimming lessons will be offered but the dates have not been confirmed.
