Hettie B. Terry
Hettie Butler Terry of Jacksonville, Fla., (formerly of Russellville), passed away peacefully Sept. 5. Mrs. Terry was 89 years of age and is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Dr. Aubrey E. Terry, her daughter Lesa Terry Walsh and son-in-law Dr. J. Timothy Walsh, as well as her granddaughter Caitlin Walsh and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Butler, and brother, J. H. Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at the First Baptist Church in Russellville. Visitation will also be at the church, at 11:30 a.m., preceding the funeral. Interment will follow at the Franklin Memory Gardens.
Hettie Terry was born in Lawrence County and graduated from Hatton High School. She earned her bachelor’s in elementary education from the University of North Alabama and taught school for nine years in Philadelphia and Birmingham. Mrs. Terry was devoted to her community and worked tirelessly for many causes. She served on numerous boards, including the UNA Alumni Board, the UNA foundation and the Riverbend Mental Health Center. She was also state president of the Alabama Medical Auxillary and served on the state board of the American Cancer Society. Hettie was a member of the DAR, the Colonial Dames and the Phi Mu sorority. Mrs. Terry was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church Russellville. Mrs. Terry will be remembered most for her sense of style, her gracious Southern hospitality and her loving heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Riverbend Center for Mental Health or the University of North Alabama Foundation.
