Three Russellville High School student athletes signed to continue playing sports at the next level with the Northwest Shoals Community College Patriots. The event took place Nov. 15 at the RHS field house.

RHS baseball players Brandt Cummings and Cayden Johns signed with NWSCC head coach David Langston, while Jacey Moore made her plans official by signing to play softball for the Patriots head coach Angel Brown.

The three standouts are currently high school seniors with another season left to play at RHS before heading to the junior college level. Cummings and Johns will be leaders on head coach Jess Smith’s Russellville team, and Moore will be a top player on first-year RHS softball head coach Rick Lawson’s squad.

“I’m happy to have this opportunity to sign,” Cummings said. “It’s a bit of a relief for the senior season to get that out of the way, and we can focus on this spring and bring one home maybe.”

Both baseball signees shared they are looking forward to reuniting with Langston, who was a member of the Russellville coaching staff during their freshman and sophomore seasons.

A large crowd filled the room at the Russellville field house to show their support for the players.

“I appreciate everybody who came out from the community. It shows how much everybody cares about our program,” Johns said. “It’s big-time being able to play for such a great school that’s close to home.

“I feel very blessed and honored to get to play at Northwest Shoals because I’m going to get to stay close to home and having all my friends and family come out to support us all just means a lot to me.”

Moore not only shines in the pitching circle but also on the basketball court. She said getting to play with her sister Jemma is one of her favorite memories that she’s making while at RHS.

“She’s a freshman, and I’m a senior this year, and last year, at the end of the season, we got to play softball together a little bit, and we got to play basketball together a little bit,” she said. “This year, we’re getting to play both together full time, so I’m excited about that, and it’s very sweet to me.”
