NWSCC Patriots finish softball season at ACCC Tournament

The Northwest Shoals Community College Patriots finished the 2024 softball season at the ACCC Division I Championship Tournament held at Veterans Park in Alabaster, Alabama. Head coach Angel Brown’s NWSCC squad finished the year with a record of 22-37.

Northwest Shoals 11, Shelton State 9

The No. 5 seed Patriots opened the ACCC Tournament May 9 with a win over No. 4 seed Shelton State. Northwest Shoals had 19 hits, and Bradyn Mitchell led the way to victory with two, including a double and four RBI. NWSCC batters with three hits each included Brooklyn Owens, Kennedi Clark and Serinity Sisk. Aspen Teague and Karlee Wallace had two hits each, while Maddie Griffith, Katie Dawson, Haven Steeley and Bethany Minck also hit safely. Griffith and Wallace had two RBI each, while Owens, Dawson and Minck drove in one run each.

Northwest Shoals used three pitchers during the win. Mitchell went five innings in the circle, and Tharptown graduate, Taylor Cameron, pitched two innings to finish the contest. EC Wilson got the start and pitched one frame.

Wallace State 11, Northwest Shoals 2

No. 1 seed Wallace State defeated NWSCC in the second game of the day May 9. Both runs by the Patriots were scored in the game’s fourth inning on RBI hits by Teague and Wallace. Griffith added a double for Northwest Shoals. Cameron went four innings in the pitching circle and Wilson threw 1.1 innings for the Patriots.

Southern Union 9, Northwest Shoals 7

The season came to an end for the Patriots May 10 with a loss to No. 6 seed Southern Union.

NWSCC outhit Southern Union 11-8. Bradyn Mitchell had three hits, including a triple and two RBI. Owens, Clark and Wallace had two hits each, while Griffith and Dawson had one apiece. Brooklyn Owens had three RBI, while Griffith and Teague added one each. Cameron and Wilson did the pitching for the Patriots.
