Mary Winchette Craig

Mary Winchette Craig, 79, of Russellville, Ala., passed away peacefully at her home July 14. She was originally from Dekalb, Illinois, and relocated to Russellville in 1977. She had a long career as a registered nurse at Russellville Hospital, where she retired early and went on to become a licensed massage therapist for the YMCA in Florence. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and enjoyed attending Faith Church in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

She is survived by one daughter, Valerie King; two grandchildren, Kayla Herring (Tanner) and Brandon King; one great-great grandchild, Cowen Layne Herring; two sisters, Anita Hudgins (Dick), Debbie Elleson; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Craig and James Winchester; father, James Haumesseer; mother, Ruby Virtue; sisters, Carol Dunski and special son-in-law, Randy King.

The family would like to thank Helen Keller Hospital, Clearview Cancer Institute, Keller Home Health and Alabama Hospice of the Shoals for providing care to Mary. Mary was a light to anyone who was lucky enough to have met her and will greatly be missed. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to Faith Church – Shoals Campus Kingdom Builders.

Visitation will be held July 17 from 1-2 p.m. A memorial service will begin immediately after the visitation. All services will take place in Akins Funeral Home Chapel.
