New works by Meridian artist and art instructor John Marshall will be featured in an exhibit at Bonnie Busbee Art Frame and Gallery.
The exhibit will open with a reception at the gallery on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. The reception is open to the public.
Recognized as one of the most renowned and awarded artists in the region, Marshall is a native of Tennessee, a former director of the Meridian Museum of Art, and an instructor at Meridian Community College. His work has been featured in one-man and group shows, as well as competitions throughout the Southeast.
In a statement about his work, Marshall said, statements about his art change as rapidly as the series of paintings and mixed media works he creates.
Marshall said his art is never about one thing, but rather many things. "Each series of works that I create reveals truths about what I believe. In recent years, my works has been about domestic languages (images of society), inner solitude, and more recently, quiet comments on social and global issues in mixed media works. I think of myself as an explorer of the visual world using whatever medium necessary to reveal truths and ideas."
As a painter, he is interested in new media and discovering new methods and techniques to create art, while manifesting his beliefs in visual terms.
Marshall said art has been a constant exploration and investigation of ideas.
For his current exhibit, Marshall has chosen works from past series to complement his new works.
Bonnie Busbee Art Frame and Gallery is located at 712 23rd Ave. in downtown Meridian. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
