Meridian teams doing well in state tournaments

Todd Doolittle pitched seven strong innings and got a pair of homers from Mann Dubose and Matt Minchew as the Meridian Dixie Majors defeated Laurel/Jones County 7-1 in Taylorsville Monday.
Doolittle went the distance on the mound, fanning 14 batters and allowed just three hits.
Minchew drove in five runs with a couple of doubles and a solo home run, while Dubose was 3-for-3 with a pair of singles and a homer.
Meridian will next face Monday's Puckett/Benton winner tonight at 8 p.m.
In Oxford, the Meridian American 12-year-olds knocked off Meridian National 5-3 in a winner's bracket game Sunday as Sam Dulaney and Justin Palmer each pitched three strong innings and Daniel Covert added three singles.
Meridian American faced the winner of Monday's Vicksburg/Meridian National contest Monday night for the Cal Ripken State Championship.
In Laurel, the Meridian Dixie Youth Pre-Majors defeated Greenville 10-0 in five innings Saturday and clobbered Purvis 12-0 Sunday. They faced Carthage Monday.
In Jackson, the Meridian American 11-year-old All-Stars rallied through the loser's bracket of their state tournament to reach the semi-finals of the championship game.
After falling to Gulfport 8-1 Friday, Meridian American defeated Meridian National 5-3, Oxford 17-5, Morton 7-0 and then came back from an 8-6 deficit with a six-run sixth inning to beat Stone County 14-8.
Meridian American faced the North Jackson Blues Monday with an opportunity to advance to the title game against Gulfport.
