ECCC Warriors face Gulf Coast in home opener

DECATUR – After two weeks on the road, the East Central Community College Warriors will finally play their 2001 home opener when they host Gulf Coast Thursday night. Kickoff for the South Division contest is set for 6:30.
The Warriors evened their record at 1-1 with a 38-8 rout of Coahoma last week after falling 14-7 at Mississippi Delta in the season opener.
Gulf Coast lost 21-13 to Northwest Mississippi last week after knocking of Northeast Mississippi 29-7 in their season opener.
Against Coahoma, Patrick Prince rushed 11 times for a team-best 102 yards. He scored on a 37-yard pitchout from Brian Zbydniewski. Marcus Lee had three receptions for 61 yards, while Ramon Williams scored on runs of 4 and 12 yards.
ECCC finished with 361 total yards, 279 of which came on the ground.
Melvin Cotton led the Warrior defense with seven solo tackles and three assists. Keith Curry added six total tackles.
Danny Haynes booted a 42-yard field goal.
The game may be heard on WSSI-FM 98.3 in Carthage.
