Meridian police say they have a suspect in the New Year's Day shooting death of 24-year-old Christopher Howard of 20th Street Extension Road.
Detective Deano Harper said police interviewed witnesses Wednesday, and hope to make an arrest soon.
Harper said a motive has been established but investigators are reluctant to reveal the suspect's identity, or release details about the shooting, for fear of compromising the case.
The shooting was the first of the new year happening about 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Howard was pronounced dead in the parking lot of Riley Hospital minutes after being shot in another parking lot less than a mile away. Coroner Marl Cobler said he was shot in the back more than one time, and driven to the hospital in a private car.
A second man police will not identify was also shot, but was treated and released from the hospital. The suspect in the fatal shooting could also be charged with aggravated assault if this second victim presses charges, Harper said.
The shooting occurred after police received a call about an argument at the Platinum City Bar. The fight apparently moved outside the club and down the street to a car wash parking lot on 25th Avenue and Fourth Street, where the two men were shot.
