East Central Community College Basketball Camp
East Central Community College will hold a basketball camp for junior high boys, (four through eighth grades), June 3-June 5. A senior High (ninth through twelth grades) will hold a camp June 9-12; Junior High Girls (grades four through eighth grades) June 16- June 19 and a senior high girls (ninth through twelth grades) June 23-26. Cost is $145 per camper, full time and $110 per camper for day campers. All-Star Basketball Clinic
The third annual Tara Barr Armistead's All-Star Basketball Clinic will be held June 5-7, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., for girls grades 8-12, at the Choctaw County High School Gymnasium in Butler, Ala. All proceeds from the Tara Barr Armistead's Basketball Clinic are donated to the Choctaw County Public Library Summer Reading Program for children. FISHING TOURNAMENTS
East Mississippi Sportsman Association 32nd Fishing Rodeo
The East Mississippi Sportsmen Association will host its 32nd annual fishing tournament. There will be a $5,000 guaranteed prize money for first through 10th place, with lunker bass a 100 percent pay back. The fishing tournament will be May 18, at Lake Okatibbee, with fishing hours 5:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Entrance fee is $80 per boat, two person minimum. SWIMMING
MSA Beginning Swimming
Meridian Swim Association offers beginning swimming for young children the basics in swim development and to have fun in water. no water experience necessary. Small individualized classes are available every two weeks starting May 20 and running throughout the summer. Contact Chris Engledow to register at 681-4511 or 604-1440.
MSA – The Swim Team
The Meridian Swim Team teaches competitive swimming, and if a child can negotiate one lap of the pool on his own, the coaches will teach the four basic strokes ( free style, back stroke, butterfly and breast stroke) and the principles of competitive swimming. Prospective team members are encouraged to try MSA WEEK at the MCC pool the week of May 6-10 or at the Highland Park Pool the week of June 3-7. MSA – MASTERS SWIMMING
The Meridian Swim Association offers individualized swim instruction for any adult over 18 years of age. Summer schedule will offer classes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 6:30 a.m.- 7:30 a.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m.-9 a.m. at the Highland Park pool. TRIATHLONS
Heart of Dixie Triathlon
The 23rd annual Heart O'Dixie Triathlon will be held Saturday, July 27, 2002 at 6:30 a.m. at Lake Tiak O'Khata in Louisville. This is the oldest triathlon in the continental United States. The race consists of a .5 mile swim ( five second staggered start); 27.5 mile bike ( no drafting); and finishes with a seven mile run. This event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and is designated as the Mississippi State Championship.
