It will be a night to honor the people who help the Meridian Museum of Art and also celebrate their artistic talents.
From 6 p.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday, the museum will hold its annual Membership Gala an event that combines a reception for museum members with a program that honors those who have helped build and support the museum the past 32 years.
Program details
The program will begin at 6:45 p.m., include a talk by Gil Carmichael and honor the 2002 Volunteer of the Year. The museum also will unveil its 2003 T-shirt featuring artwork by Kate Cherry.
The reception will feature the musical talents of the Artists All-Star Band.
Among his many accomplishments, Carmichael was instrumental in the campaign to convert the city's historic Old Carnegie Library Building into an art museum.
Carmichael, president of the museum's board in 1968 and 1969, will talk about the museum's founding and early days especially the hard-fought process to establish it in its current location.
Top volunteer
Heder said this year's Volunteer of the Year, BJ Hatten, has been indispensible.
Hatten is a stained glass artist and owner of North River Studios. In addition to helping the museum, she also serves with the Meridian Junior Auxiliary and the Enterprise Zoning Committee.
Museum T-shirt
The museum's membership T-shirt for 2003 will feature an original work by Cherry, an award-winning Porterville artist.
After the unveiling, shirts will be available for purchase, along with a selection of the outstanding shirts from previous years.
