This weekend the Phil Campbell Alumni Association is having their annual Alumni Day at the school, and when I heard about this I thought to myself, “What a great idea to have a gathering every year instead of every 10 years.”

It has been seven years since my high school graduation, and even though that may not seem like a long time to some, a lot of things have taken place in the lives of my classmates and a lot of them I haven’t seen in person since we walked across the football field and received our diplomas.

I’ve thought for some time now that we should instate at least five-year reunions instead of 10-year reunions, but I think Phil Campbell has the right idea.

It’s not something everyone has to participate in, and people who live on the other side of the country might still only make it in for a big, 10-year celebration, but for those who are close enough to come to town for the day or the weekend, it would be great to get to catch up once a year, see what everyone is up to and reminisce about the “good ole’ days.”

I know you can now find out all your need to know about people (and then some) from Facebook and other social media, but you can’t beat seeing someone in person, giving them a hug and sitting down to chat about what you could have possibly been thinking by the outfits you wore or the hairstyles you had back in the day.
